Anti-Procrastination Week: Day 2

Our day began with oatmeal and orange/banana/carrot/flax seed smoothies. Yum!

And, of course, Bible Time--Kathrynne's favorite time of all! We have to carefully scan as many pictures as Mom will allow and explain what was happening to who and why and when and where. (And "Are those bad people or good people, Mama?" "How come?" "Do they love Jesus?" Are they going to Heaven?")

Three-year-olds are so inquisitive and I'm grateful that one of the things Kathrynne asks the most about is Bible stories.

After baths, kitchen clean-up (gratefully things weren't as bad as yesterday!), and a quick pick up of the house, we proceeded to vacuum the living room and clean out the vacuum cleaner bucket. Ick! We have a bagless vacuum which we like, but cleaning out the bucket is not high on my list of favorite chores.
We then cleaned the glass, emptied the small trashes, and dumped some baking soda in them (this keeps them smelling fresh!).

Then we moved on to do some cooking and baking. I browned some ground beef and made chili and whipped up a meatloaf for later in the week while that was simmering. I had some extra time and had been wanting to try and make homemade crackers to go with the chili.

Well try we did and flop they did. Perhaps we should just stick with Saltines. Ugh! Anyone have a better cracker recipe for me to try--one that works well with whole wheat flour? If so, I'd love to have it!
After our chores were finished, we enjoyed some fun outside time with Kathrynne having a blast riding her trike on the deck. Life just isn't much better than that, is it?

Hey Crystal,
I love making homemade crackers.

On my blog I shared two recipes that have worked for me. They are both whole grain and are "soaked".

This first one I made with coconut oil (which does change the taste a little), but you could use butter as well.

This second one (made with buttermilk and butter) got a lot of good reviews when other people tried it.

You could try them out, if you like. ;-) We actually like them a lot (my 18 month old daughter does as well). Hope this helps. :-)

Sometimes you have to play around with recipes a little to get it how you like it. So keep trying! I have been really happy with making homemade crackers!

Thanks for your anti-procrastination week!!! I have gotten soooo much done. My husband is in China for 2 weeks with a client and so I am home with 3 kids by myself. I thought it was going to be 2 difficult weeks, but God is so good and has filled me with the fruits of the spirit and then some (okay patience has been low at times but still there)!!! I have cleaned and organzined all but 2 closets (those will get done tomorrow), cleaned the laundry room, organized our bookshelf, and I have all my laundry and ironing done!! Can I get an AMEN.....I don't even know who I am with all this done and it is only Wednesday. Oh and did I mention I had jury duty yesterday:)

Regarding the cracker situation. I have never attempted homemade crackers but I just happened to be over at Laura's blog and saw this recipe yesterday so I thought I would pass it along.

Blessings! Jeni

Did you freeze your meatloaf? If so, how? I try to make several meals in advance and am just learning what foods can be frozen for later use, and what cannot.

Crystal, I'm glad to see that you're lengthening your own anti-procrastination campaign. I'm not fully caught up on reading on your blog, but this week so far I'm finally posting on my own blog (anti-procrastination #1) and today I posted on my first CVS bargain shopping experience (anti-procrastination #2). Thanks for your encouragement and resources!

Thanks for the link Crystal! I am so inspired by your week! Also, thank you for linking to the Graceworks pages. While the one page I designed for myself works well and I will continue to use it, theirs are so reasonably priced that others I was going to design may be just as frugal to purchase there. I truly enjoy finding something that saves both money and time!

I'd also love the smoothie recipe! Or at least the ratio you used :) I wish I had advice on the crackers. I never thought to make my own. I just stopped buying them! :) Do you still buy white flour, even though you grind your own wheat? Thanks in advance for answering! :)

Oh my -- I have to confess your post made me laugh. I HAD NO IDEA that anyone even considered making their own crackers! LOL Guess it shoes just how 'domestically challenged' I am! LOL Good for you in trying it, but if you get it figured out, you MUST blog about it and inspire us to try too, ok? :)

I have a homemade whole wheat cracker recipe posted here. It's easy to make, and although they certainly aren't like store bought...we like them!

Crystal,

That's fun to see your copy of "The Bible in Pictures for Little Eyes." I have a special affection for that book because Kenneth Taylor (the author) is my grandfather. Glad you guys are enjoying it. :)

And thank you for starting a series on homemaking with toddlers...I am mother of a one year old and starting to realize I need to re-think some of my homemaking routines. Looking forward to reading more.

Rebecca
