Red work
Now I'm wondering what on earth I waited so long for? This stuff is addictive and relaxing. There's nothing like curling up on the sofa with a cup of tea, a thought-provoking podcast, and some handwork!
Speaking of which, I've been listening to a lot of podcasts recently while I'm cleaning, working, or sewing--mostly podcasts recommended by Girl Talk. I know there are many more excellent audios online to listen to and would love your recommendations if you have any.

I'd love to know where you got that pattern! I have a framed painting in my kitchen with similar-looking "sunbonnet girls" (they are painting blacking on a stovepipe) that was done by my grandmother.
Best wishes,
Laura
You can find many free redwork patterns by doing a search in google for free redwork patterns.
One of the many benefits of scheduling is that I fit time in for embroidery/handwork. It is a fun activity to do with my girls in the afternoon and they have become very good at it. We have lots of time to talk and enjoy each others company during this time.
When I am folding laundry, doing some cleaning etc I often listen to podcasts from Sovereign Grace as well as Family Life Ministries. I will also listen to Dave Ramsey also. I would love to see some others!
I get some great podcasts at www.mises.org
Mostly on American History and Economics.
I recommend especially the ones by Thomas Woods. He is a great speaker, very engaging, and humorous. Some of the other speakes can be a bit dry and stuffy.
Revive Our Hearts by Nancy Leigh DeMoss is excellent! You can download for free all of the previous broadcasts at their website: www.reviveourhearts.com
Thank you for reminding me to schedule time for this kind of activity with my girls.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the resource library at desiringgod.org. John Piper posts all of his sermons and conference messages free of charge. I just finished listening to an entire pastors conference called "The Supremacy of Christ in a Postmodern World" and I'm starting a conference called "A God-Entranced Vision of All Things". I listen while I'm cleaning, sewing, painting, whatever and it turns the chore into a treat! What a blessing to have such resources so readily available!
I love to embroider - and it can be addicting as you say. But for me it goes in spurts. I might work on it for days and then not touch it for months (or longer!). My grandma taught me how to embroider when I was probably about 7.
I don't have anything to add about the redwork as I have not tried it yet but as far as podcasts, there are quite a few that I listen to.
These are all thru iTunes:
Answers in Genesis-Ken Ham
CARM Radio Show-Matt Slick
Crosstalk Updates
Desiring God-John Piper
First Baptist Woodstock with Johnny Hunt
Flylady
Grace to You-John MacArthur
Just Thinking-Ravi Zacharias
Precepts for Life-Kay Arthur
Revive our Hearts-Nancy Leigh DeMoss
Understanding the Times-Jan Markell
Walk in the Word-James MacDonald
Way of the Master Radio
Whew!!! I'm done!
What is Red Work- I never heard of it? Your kids let you sew? I can't imagine!
Been reading your blog for a while (as well as Moneysavingmom)...love it! I appreciate all the time you put into blogging! It was fun seeing links to the girltalk blog by the Mahaney girls, since my husband is a pastor of a Sovereign Grace church. I'm assuming you are not part of Sovereign Grace in Kansas, but it's fun to see other people keyed into their sites. :)
