Deepening my understanding of Christ's love
There is a gentle breeze blowing in the windows and a quiet rain falling outside. Jesse has left for work, the girls are both in their beds sleeping, and I am sitting here with my feet up typing on my laptop in a clean living room (well, at least it's picked up; we won't mention the dust bunnies or fingerprints on the windows!), and I'm thanking God for a few moments of quietness*--something which has been obsolete here the past five days as the girls were so sick.
Thank you for your kind words of encouragement and your prayers for us this week; you all bless me so much! The girls are doing much better, for which we are all thankful. I am especially grateful that they are sleeping better at night. Not only will it continue to help them improve, but this mom doesn't do too well on less than four hours of sleep per night!
I've thought a lot over the last few days of how mothering is such an opportunity to die to self. Much as I wanted to just climb in bed and sleep without being awoken or interrupted, I had to set that desire aside in order to tend to the needs of my children.
Motherhood is a 24/7 365 days-a-year job. Even when you feel exhausted and overwhelmed, you have to keep on. And sometimes it's only love for your child and God's grace that keeps you going.
It's in these times of stretching and self-giving as a mom, that we can better understand Christ's love for us.

"But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us. We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed; Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body. For we which live are alway delivered unto death for Jesus' sake, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our mortal flesh. So then death worketh in us, but life in you." (2 Corinthians 4:7-12)*The quietness didn't last long: first the phone rang, then loud thunder struck right outside the window jolting both girls from their peaceful sleep. Such is life!

I'm happy your girls are on the mend. Please take good care of yourself as much as you can.
Blessings,
Trixie
Boy can I relate! I have two little ones around the same ages as yours. In Proverbs 31 I always wondered about the verse that says her lamp doesn't go out at night, and now I understand. It's not that she's up all night, it's that she's prepared to be. She's prepared to wakened at any time, day or night, and care for her family. And you're right, dying to self is the only that gets us through, mainly because when we die to ourselves, we are filled with much more strength and power - Christ's!
I'm so glad that you're all doing better. I'd been thinking about you and praying since you hadn't posted.
Sarah Mae-
I love that idea abou the lamp. I'd never thought of it that way before.
I am so relieved that you are all on the mend.
God bless and amen to your post.

I sometimes get a little protective of the actual value of being a wife and mother who stays at home. If I ever ask another woman who's a wife or mother, I usually phrase it, "Do you work OUTSIDE the home?" And when others ask me if I WORK, I usually say that I certainly do, only I don't get paid to do it. It truly is a 24/7/365 job, but as for me, it's my "dream job;" what I've always wanted to do. Thank you for your websites that are such an encouragement to so many of us wives and moms who are like-minded when it comes to our chosen profession.

So glad to hear that the girls are feeling better!
I did have to chuckle about the quiet not lasting for long...that always seems to be the way of things, doesn't it? At least you got to enjoy it for a moment.
