Making Your Home a Haven Monday: Showing Christ's love

The sermon at church yesterday was on Titus 2 and encouragement specifically for moms and women in honor of Mother's Day. One thing which really stood out to me was the point that while being a keeper of our home does include striving for organization and cleanliness in our homes, what is most important is that we are showing Christ's love through our homes--to our families and all those who would enter our homes.

I don't know about you, but for me, I sometimes find myself focusing more on crossing things off my to-do list than on enjoying my children, loving my husband, and delighting in my calling as a wife, mother, and homemaker. What's the point of clean floors and toilets, if I don't have love towards my family or I'm too busy cleaning and organizing to take time for them?

So today, instead of some encouraging you to accomplish some project related to organizing or cleaning for Making Your Home a Haven Monday, I want to challenge everyone (myself included!)to take some time today to enjoy your children, show practical love to your husband, open your home up for ministry to someone in need, or refresh your own spirit in the Lord so that you might be a more joyful wife, mother, and/or homemaker.

I can't wait to hear what creative ideas you all come up with! Post about it on your blog and leave your link below. Thanks for joining us!

Crystal,
I'm not posting on my blog today because I've been away from home for most of the day, but wanted to share anyway. A new friend of mine from a new church agreed on very short notice to watch my two youngest kids with her own three so I could go to my husband's school and donate 14 inches of my hair for Locks of Love. What was great was her offer to feed us all lunch afterward, which gave us a chance to visit and get to know one another better. I'm glad she was so willing to make her home a haven and not worry about pets, kids, and a little clutter; her home was a haven anyway. I just wanted to share that it's so nice to be on the receiving end of it, which is also great motivation to do likewise. Hopefully we'll have "after" photos posted soon! Love you blogs,
Merrilee

Your blog spoke to me at just the right time. I calmed everything down in the house so we were able to eat a peaceful dinner around the table and share with one another without distractions. I posted a link to my blog on your list.
Blessings,
Nancy J.

I just wanted to thank you for being an encouragement about ministering to those around us. Sunday I was so blessed to take a special package to a friend and her husband who are waiting on the Lord to bless them with children. Not having children (and desiring them) on a day that makes a big deal of them I know is difficult! She's a very dear friend and I wanted to give her something special, and let her know I am praying for them. The encouragement from you, and another lady I know, has helped me see needs to minister to and love people. I'm so thankful to the Lord, too for putting this on my heart this weekend. It really blessed ME to see how God used that in her day.

You're right that life can turn into one long "to do" list. Spending time with the people we love is so much more important but somehow we seem to feel we need "permission" to take time out to do this.
