Home Education at Our House: D is for Delighting in the Lord
Here's this week's lesson plan:
Week #4: The Letter "D"
Bible Time: Read one story from the Bible and review ABC Bible verse book
Memory Verse: "Delight thyself also in the LORD and He shall give thee the desires of thine heart." (Psalm 37:4)
Character Theme: Joy--seeking first the kingdom of God, others first using story/poem from Teach Them To Your Children
Song: "Joy, Joy, Joy!"
Letter Review: DEF letter-readings from Alpha-Phonics (at the back of the book for those who have this book--I just have her read half a page per day and plan to review these at least a few times per week while we're studying D, E, and F. We'll continue on like this with each letter so that in 26 weeks, she should be very familiar with all the letters and their sounds).
Nature Study: Dogs (We checked out books from the library on dogs and are also making a trip to the pet store.)
Books to Read (1-3 per day, all somehow related to joy/serving others):
My Thank You Book*
Two Surprises*
Birthday Friend*
God's Happy Family*
Because I Love You--we just got this book and I love it! What a powerful message!
*These are Little Jewel books (highly recommended!) available from Rod and Staff Publishers.
Lengthier Book to Finish (read a chapter or so per day): The Family Under the Bridge

We've been having fun with some of the exciting, easy, and inexpensive science experiments on this website:

We are memorizing Exodus 20:1-17.
For my 6dd she is writing verses, or parts of a verse, as we learn it in a notebook we found that has a space for a drawing. Then, she draws a picture about that verse. For example, for the second verse, she made a picture of Egypt with people leaving.
My 8(almost 9)ds is writing out verses as well, and he is also looking up other scripture where someone followed or didn't follow that commandment and what happened. Then, he is either writing, drawing, or even doing a short "one man" play about it. He is very creative, so it's been fun to see what he comes up with.
While we are learning this scripture we are adding signs that we know and making motions to help with the memorization. This helps my 3dd, who has down syndrome and signs. She loves to do the motions with us, and she is learning too!
All of this covers spelling, writing, research, history and bible! Oh, and a bit of math when we learned how many years are in 4 generations (verse 5). I love home school!!!

Crystal,
Did you buy the whole Little Jewel set from Rod and Staff?

DD is nearly two. WE're using the Letter of the week nursery curriculum, enjoying "We're Going on a Bear Hunt" and Ps. 117 this week, and waiting for getting a new electronic piano so we cna have music ourselves as well as listening to records!

We are lightly schooling with Bible, Math and Reading while I get my plans in order for this school year. Here is a link to my blog that explains what we are doing for Biblical education.

Our children also enjoy some of Max Lucado's children's books and DVD's.
We are very excited as we've just found an Australian supplier (actually in South East Queensland) for the Little Jewel Books. Hopefully we'll be able to order some online soon.
Exciting stuff? Books books & more books -our children are potential Bibliophiles!, a recent trip to the local museum in my home town, & getting to watch all Mummy's ultrasounds, learning about twins!

Thanks for recommending the Little Jewel Books from Rod and Staff. I purchased some at our homeschool convention a couple weeks ago and my son and I both love them. I am thankful to find books that relate things that preschoolers do to biblical concepts.
Anyone have any creative ideas for a 17 month old? I read bible stories to my daughter, but I really want to do more activities with her, in a biblical sense. Thanks!
Memories at Home,
I had the same question. My daughter is 17 months old and we work on all her animal sounds with all the picture books we read and of course I read her bible stories and we count going up and down the stairs (sometimes she repeats 2 and 3) but that is it.
I wonder if I should be doing more but am not sure what else ...
Ok, I'm confused. Your daughter is 3-1/2, is learning the letter sounds and yet you're having her read?
"Letter Review: DEF letter-readings from Alpha-Phonics (at the back of the book for those who have this book--I just have her read half a page per day and plan to review these at least a few times per week while we're studying D, E, and F. My son will be 4 at the end of October, and I keep flip flopping on whether we will follow a 'curriculem' or just do the fun and easy preschool stuff we've been doing. Your plans blow me away. Could you clarify for me.
