It was a good day...

So, it took me a little longer than two hours to complete everything on this list--more like 3 1/2 hours--but, by God's grace, I finished it!

Here's what the house looked like at the beginning of the day:

And here are the post-cleaning pictures:

Do you know how nice it feels to have the whole house picked up, the carpets vacuumed, the bathrooms cleaned, and all the laundry done? All at the same time? This is definitely a historical day. And tomorrow you may not even be able to tell that any of it was done (!), but at least for tonight, Jesse walked into a welcoming haven.

Yes, I do remember that feeling... though it has become a fainter and fainter memory in the past 6 months!

I have been working hard, though, and am feeling a little taste of it tonight since the porch is clean, the kitchen floor is mopped, the childrens' room is clean, and the living room is vacuumed. I guess tomorrow I'll be washing the dishes, cleaning the bathroom, etc. etc... :)

I do love the all-at-the-same-time feeling... and have always preferred to do my housecleaning all on one day so it feels "done" rather than constantly being "behind" like I have been for a while now. :)

What a wonderfully quick transformation!
I've been madly attacking corners of our home both yesterday and today, after not being able to do much the past few months.I'm pregnant with twins, and have just turned the corner from feeling sick to getting nesting urges!

Yes, I know exactly how nice it feels! Yesterday was a get-back-on-top-of-things-and-whip-the-house-into-order day for me too! Both bathrooms cleaned, every room picked up, most of the carpets vacuumed, everything swept, dusting, the dining room floor scrubbed, the kitchen spotless and organized, several loads of laundry, a good bit of baking and cooking, etc. It's been a long time since I've had the house in such good shape overall all at one time.

I'm hoping to do a lot of the peripheral cleaning stuff like scrubbing every inch of the dining room chairs today! And then get caught up on sewing!

Thank you for the challenge. It really helped me stay focused and get my home back in order after our busy weekend. I look forward to more of the challenges. It helps to know others are in the same stage of life.

It's nice to know that I'm not the only one who can get the house picked up and the next day you can't even tell that you ever did anything the day before. My littles who are 3 and almost two trash EVERYTHING they touch. It can be discouraging. Your house looks nice!

Crystal,

I experienced the same feeling of accomplishment at the end of my day as well, and only spent about an hour. Even though my boys are 6 and 5, they were a HUGE help with vacuuming, sweeping, drying dishes, and picking up items and putting away. We mostly stuck to the list and raced against the timer. With whatever time we had leftover, we took a load off and rested (me with my feet up.) We didn't complete the laundry or mopping, but that's okay with me. I try to do a little at a time throughout the week. But frankly, I was thinking: If we can accomplish this much in an hour, we surely could do this more often and perhaps manage to maintain some sense of order!

(Just as an aside: instead of lighting a candle, we popped some chewing gum in our mouths to keep us going. It might be fun to hear from your readers what music they enjoy listening to while doing housework. My kids and I have been enjoying the soundtrack to Jonah: The Veggie Tale Movie. LOL!)

Thanks for all the motivation,

Merrilee

I was wondering where you got your slip covers at? I like the look of them and I seem to remember you saying before you got them off the internet. Thanks.

So I finished the challenge (and did it in less than 2 hours! yay!) and the main floor looks great. But I noticed something: what about the bedrooms? Is that something you just straighten up right away when you get up?

Oh YES ma'am! My favorite moments are those when the whole house is for a few minutes at least, perfect! It feel so nice and I am always calmer and happier when my home is neat and clean.

Nice job!

RoseMary: Try the SureFit outlet on eBay. That's the best deal I've found for slipcovers and where we got ours. We had to be quick and bid a little high to get matching ones for the chair and sofa (most of the sets when we looked were for loveseats and sofas, not a chair and sofa), but it still ended up being less than half the retail price. And the slipcovers were brand-new, too!

Sarah: We don't spend a lot of time in our bedrooms most days as we spend the bulk of our time in the main living areas of the house. So they usually aren't that messy (though there are definitely times when they look like a hurricane hit!!). I just usually try to straighten them in the morning during our pick-up time, strip the sheets on Mondays, vacuum on Mondays and sometimes Fridays, dust at least once or twice per month, and do any other cleaning as it needs to be done.

Very nice! I always do a quick 30 minute pick up before my husband arrives home from work so that he is welcomed by a neat and restful haven too.

Be blessed,
Lea

Hardly ever, because I can't do it alone anymore. I haven't the motivation. Your house looked pretty clean to me before, but even better after. You have a very cherry home.
